How I’ll Show Up at the Council Table
Stronger Communities. Brighter Futures.
In every election, we talk about priorities, housing, affordability, safety, growth. Those issues matter deeply. But just as important is how decisions are made once the doors close and Council goes to work.
Leadership isn’t about having the loudest voice. It’s about listening well, building trust, and turning shared goals into real results for people. If elected, I will lead differently at the Council table. Here’s what that means in practice, and the experience I bring with me.
Leading With Listening - Before Decisions Are Made
Too often, public engagement happens after decisions feel inevitable. I believe listening should shape decisions from the very beginning.
In practice, that means meeting with residents, service providers, and local businesses before votes are taken, especially those most affected by Council decisions. It means bringing lived experience into the room as essential evidence, not an afterthought.
Throughout my career, I’ve led complex initiatives where trust was the difference between success and failure. I’ve learned that when people feel heard early, decisions are stronger, implementation is smoother, and conflict is reduced. At the Council table, I will consistently ask: Who isn’t in the room, and how do we understand their perspective before we decide?
Being a Bridge‑Builder, Not a Divider
The challenges facing Saint John don’t fit neatly into boxes. Housing, affordability, homelessness, child poverty, infrastructure renewal, and uptown vitality all cross departments and jurisdictions.
I bring experience working across systems government, business, academia, and the community sector, to align people around shared outcomes. That means focusing on solutions, not silos; progress, not politics.
At the Council table, I will work to build common ground, even when perspectives differ. Strong leadership doesn’t eliminate disagreement, it channels it into better decisions.
Data‑Informed and Human‑Centered Decision‑Making
Good leadership balances evidence and empathy. Data tells us what’s happening; people tell us why it matters.
I will push for clear data on costs, risks, and long‑term impacts before major decisions are made. But I will also ensure those decisions are grounded in real community experience, how policies affect families, seniors, workers, and young people day to day.
In my professional work, I’ve helped organizations move from reactive choices to outcome‑focused strategies. At Council, that means asking hard questions: Does this reduce pressure on families? Does it make life more affordable? Does it strengthen our community over time?
Fiscal Responsibility with a Long‑Term View
Being fiscally responsible isn’t about saying no, it’s about spending wisely and planning for the future.
I’ve managed complex budgets and understand the responsibility that comes with public dollars. I also know that failing to invest in housing, infrastructure, and community wellbeing carries real costs, often paid later, and often by the most vulnerable.
At the Council table, I will focus on long‑term value, sustainability, and transparency, so residents understand both the choices we make and the trade‑offs involved.
Leading With Integrity, Calm, and Respect
Local government sets the tone for the entire community. How Council behaves matters.
I bring steady, respectful leadership, especially during difficult moments. I believe in treating colleagues, staff, and residents with dignity, even in disagreement. I focus on solutions, not blame, and I show up prepared, thoughtful, and grounded in service.
Join Me in Building a Stronger Community
Strong communities don’t happen by chance. They’re built by people who care enough to show up, speak up, and work together.
I’m running because I believe Saint John’s best days are ahead of us, but only if we build them together. Whether you have five minutes or five hours, there’s a place for you in this campaign and in this community‑building effort.
I invite you to:
Share your ideas and lived experience
Volunteer, get involved, or help spread the word
Be part of a positive, hopeful movement focused on solutions
Together, we can lead with care, collaborate with purpose, and create stronger communities and brighter futures, for everyone.
